Your First Visit to our Brewster Family Orthodontics Office

We look forward to meeting you on your first visit to our office.

When you arrive you will be greeted by our friendly front desk staff, which will assist you in using our computerized sign-in touch screen. This lets the clinical assistants know that you have arrived, and they will prepare the exam room. At this time you will be asked to supply the patient information/health history forms, which will have been mailed to you or which you may have downloaded on this website.

Private Examination Room

After being seated in a private examination room by one of our dental assistants, you will meet with Dr. Braun to review your medical history and discuss your specific concerns and expectations regarding orthodontic treatment. We are specifically aware that we are treating a person and not just straightening teeth and correcting bite problems. Once we understand your personal goals, we will show you how we can achieve them.

The Examination

Dr. Braun will then examine the configuration of the patient’s face, teeth, bite, jaw joint, as well as the relationship of the jaw bones. This will enable her to determine if there is a need for orthodontic treatment at the present time.

Orthodontic Records

If treatment is indicated the taking of orthodontic records will be recommended. The records consist of digital photos, extra-oral (outside of the mouth) x-rays, impressions of the upper and lower arch for study models and a wax bite. These diagnostic tools allow Dr. Braun to make a thorough analysis and develop a customized treatment plan. Obtaining the records takes about 30 minutes. If it is convenient for you to stay after your initial examination, we will take the records at that time. If not, we will schedule an appointment at another more convenient time.

Treatment Conference

After the records are taken, a treatment conference will be scheduled within two to four weeks. At this conference Dr. Braun will provide an in-depth explanation of her diagnosis as well as a detailed treatment plan and include viable alternatives. Dr. Braun schedules these consultations after regular office hours so she can offer her undivided attention in a private setting. Besides the patient and/or parents, all family members interested in learning the treatment plan are welcome at the conference. At the end of the meeting, the front desk staff will discuss financial information, insurance coverage (where applicable), our payment plan as well as schedule future appointments.

For patients that are not ready to start orthodontic treatment we provide complimentary periodic observation visits, during which Dr. Braun will reevaluate the development of the patients’ teeth and jaws and determine the need for treatment.
